Chris Burton (Western Whale Research) and Ron Glencross (Dunsborough Coast and Landcare) – two of the founding members of SouWEST – were out at Pt Picquet last week and had a fantastic sighting of a Southern Right whale mum and calf!

The pair were moving along close to the rocks – in this picture you can see the tail flukes as they roll in the water, only 50m from shore!  Chris and Ron also sighted some humpbacks travelling south a bit further offshore.  A great start to the whale season in Geographe Bay!  If you have any great whale sightings from the area, let us know via the Contact Us page!
